Villandro & Alps of Villandro

Cozy, sunny, framed by vineyards, chestnut groves and alpine meadows, Villanders lies on the southern slope of the Sarntal Alps, at 880 m above sea level directly in the heart of South Tyrol. The village stretches from the vineyards at 550 m to the chestnut groves to the gentle alpine meadows to the Villandro mountain at 2,509 m, which is promising.

Villandro, a village with history

The excavations in the middle of the village with traces of the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, the Romans and the Middle Ages, the late medieval ore mine of Pfunder, the old residences and castles. They are all witnesses of an interesting past that testifies to the quality of life of the Villandro sunny slopes.

The most beautiful cemetery in South Tyrol
Certainly not an everyday sight, yet the Villandro cemetery rightly bears this title. Unlike in the rest of the country, the crosses and graves are aligned so that the deceased can see the sunrise. Devout people take their place directly behind the crosses forged by the Villandro blacksmith.
