The starting point for the tour is the church in Ums. Then head in the direction “Hofer Alpl, Tuff Alm”, around a few bends on the way, until a path towards “Hofer Alpl, Schlern” begins on the right (trail no. 3). The path to the Hofer Alpl is now fairly steep, leading you uphill through the forest. From the Hofer Alpl, the trail first leads along a forest road, then a footpath and on to the Tuff Alm hut. The path merges into a wide path uphill to the Schlern (trail no. 1). The route crosses the Völser Bach stream and leads on over vast Alpine meadows to the Tuff Alm. Before you get to the hut, a stony trail forks off to the left to the Völser Weiher lake. It winds through the wood and meets with the gravelly road leading to the Tuff Alm hut. After the Huber Weiher lake, turn left onto a walking trail towards Ums (trail no. 2). The path leads down through a woody valley and streams and then over open meadows back to Ums.

The starting place of the four-day hike is Nova Levante in the Val d’Ega. The hike takes to the Baita Messnerjoch Hütte then the signposted detour of path [1] goes to the famous Hirzelsteig trail (path masaré). The trail leads to the well-known Christomannos monument and the first overnight accommodation, the Rif. Roda di Vael.

The second stage of the multi-day hike leads to the Rif. Vajolet, the second accommodation. After the Check-in an ascent to the Passo Santner and the hut of the same name is possible.

The third stage starts with the crossing of the Passo Principe to the Alpe di Tires and to the Rif. Bolzano. The final effort to reach the peak of the Sciliar, the Monte Petz opens up a beautiful panorama to the surrounding mountains.

The fourth day begins with the descent from the sella Cavaccio trough the Orsara to San Cipriano. The valle Nigra path brings to the Passo Nigra and also back to the starting point Nova Levante.

General information:The tour takes four days with three overnight stays. It is recommended to book the accommodation even before. The multi-day hike does not contain any fixed rope routes. Necessary conditions for the tour: good stamina, alpine experience, head for heights and an appropriate equipment. The indicated duration of the hike are an average value for small groups up to 4 people and indicate only the time for the route without stays. In bad weather periods the multi-day hike is not recommended.

From the Völser Weiher Lake, go to the Huber Weiher Lake, where a steep trail forks off towards the Tuff Alm hut. Below the Tuff, follow the signposts to “Schlern, Hoferalpl” (no. 1). A wide walking path leads below the face of the Schlern and over the Völser Bach stream to the freight cable car valley station. Turn left and follow trail 1 up to the entrance of the Schlernschlucht gorge and the “Peter Frag” rest stop. Now take a left onto the Schäufelesteig trail (no. 3), which winds up to the Schlern plateau in a series of steep bends.

From the Refuge Schlernhaus mountain hut, trail no. 1 leads down to the Sesselschwaige mountain hut. Follow the “corduroy” tree-trunk trail, also known as the Prügelweg, into the Schlern gully, down to the Peter Frag roadside cross and back to the Völser Weiher lake along the same route.

Directly from the centre of Nova Levante, the Laurin I cable car takes you to the Frommer hut (1743 m), from where you can comfortably take the cable car König Laurin I & II  to the Fronza alle Coronelle hut (2337 m). Once at the top, the Laurins Lounge invites you to enjoy a splendid panoramic view before continuing on steep meadows along the path [550] to Passo delle Coronelle (2630 m). Hikers march along the easy downhill slope before reaching the Passo delle Cigolade (2550 m) via the path [541]. In the middle of the bizarre rocky landscape, during the arduous ascent on the path [541] you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Val di Fassa. Following path [541] you reach the Roda di Vaèl hut (2280 m). Here begins the Masarè trail [549], a very popular and easy hiking trail that connects the Roda di Vaèl hut with the starting point, the Fronza alle Coronelle hut.

Alternative: Take the chair lift Paolina to the Paolina hut (2125 m), where the route starts. From here proceed along the signs [539] and [549] until you reach the Roda di Vaèl hut (2280 m). Continue on path [541] past Passo delle Cigolade (2550 m) and then along path [541] and [550] to Passo delle Coronelle (2630 m). From Passo delle Coronelle go down to the Fronza alle Coronelle hut (2337 m) and the Laurins Lounge and then back on paths [549] and [552] to the Paolina hut.

From the Frommeralm car park, a chairlift will take you to the Kölner Hütte mountain refuge hut. The via ferrata begins behind the Kölnerhütte mountain hut (Rosengarten) hut, at 2,339 m. The route leading to the via ferrata takes you over easy climbing stretches below the Baumannkamm. The via ferrata begins with a lengthy ascent, secured by steel cable, until you come to a ladder, which is followed by a short, easy descent. In spring, this stretch is normally iced over. The following section calls for absolute surefootedness, as it leads over an unsecured rocky trail. The Santner via ferrata ends at the Refuge Santnerpass mountain hut at 2,734 m, where you can enjoy the fabulous view of St. Zyprian and the peaks of the Rosengarten.

The descent back the same way to leads to the Refuge Kölnerhptte mountain hut. Alternatively, you can take the tour around the Rosengarten, in which case you should follow trail no. 542 down to the Refuge Gartl Hütte mountain hut, then on to the Refuge Vajolet hut until you come to the Preuss hut at 2,243 m. From here, trail no. 541 leads to the Tschagerjoch. After a long, stony climb up a slightly ascending trail you will come to a fork in the path; trail 550 takes you up to the Tschagerjoch, after which a steep descent over scree land will take you to the Refuge Kölner Hütte mountain hut. From here, you can either descend by chairlift or walk down the forest trail.

The Ferrata starts up through a wide chimney which leads you to the wires and then down a metal ladder to a sandy scree slope. This spot is extremely exposed and requires an exceptional head for heights. Then head along a series of rocky shelves and up to the saddle, over a craggy strip of rock and the fairly exposed northern ridge, and up to the summit. The route down follows the ascent route.

As an alternative, you can make your descent down the secured trail on the eastern side along the iron ropes to the rocky strip that cuts through the eastern face of the Catinaccio d’Antermoia. The road leads on downhill and down two iron ladders to a saddle and over scree land to the Valle di Antermoia valley basin. Then head over the Antermoia Pass and back to the Passo Molignon.

The itinerary starts from the Grand Hotel Carezza (1609 m) and continues first along path [12] and then along forest path [12A] to the junction with path [11]. Turn left and go uphill along path [11] to the Radura di Mezzo (1839 m) and the entrance to the labyrinth trail. Following the labyrinth path, path [20], you reach path [18], turn left and follow it up to the junction with path [21]. Turn right onto path [21] and continue through the Latemar forest until you reach the junction with path [13], where you turn left and return to the starting point, the Grand Hotel Carezza.

The tour begins at the mountain station of the Paolina chairlift (Paolinahütte mountain hut 2,125 m) and leads on trail [539] past the Christomannos monument up to the Rotwandhütte mountain hut (2,283 m). Head left from there, ascending sharply to the beginning of the via ferrata. Ascend via chimneys and rock towers to the Masarè peak (2,585 m). The ascent is on the path over the grassy slope heading towards the Fensterleturm tower. A signposted trail that descends to the Rotwandhütte mountain hut (wire cables, ladder) is directly next to the cliff edge and leads back to the starting point. Alternative route: continue via the Rotwand via ferrata to the Vajolon Pass and back to the Paolinahütte mountain hut.

Difficulty: difficult (C) – only with climbing equipment, helmet, sure-footedness and Alpine experience essential

Long circular route at Carezza Lake! Orange signs – Starting point: Car park Carezza Lake, suspension bridge and path [6] steeply up (direction Passo Costalunga). Cross the road at the Pension Simhild, turn left and continue on path [12] to the crossroads with path [11], turn right and continue on path [11] to Lake Carezza. Possibility to do the lake round and then return to the starting point.
