The Alpinart studio is situated at the end of the village of Scena. Monika Kienzl’s gallery features products made of local sheep’s wool. She makes and felts tea light covers, seat cushions, slippers, natural soap covers, elaborate table runners and wall pictures. It’s definitely worth a visit.

Wine as an art form – discover our wine estate in South Tyrol
“The whole is more than the sum of its parts.” Aristotle’s wise words may also be applied to wine, or so we believe. Wine is the direct result of a complex combination of soil, grape type, honest work and weather. The certain “je ne sais quoi” of a wine – where does it come from? Could it be a winegrower’s lifeblood, which makes all the difference?

Pföstl wine estate is a little wine estate in South Tyrol. The love for wine is the motivation behind the fine site wines grown and produced here, in new facilities in Scena/Schenna near Merano/Meran.

The men behind Pföstl wine estate
Pföstl wine estate is a dream come true, a dream of two friends who have grown up together and have known each other since early childhood: Stefan Pföstl and Georg Weger.

Georg’s roots on his mother’s side lead back to the Pföstl family. Today, Georg works on the vineyard and processes the grapes in the cellar. The love for wine pointed him towards this profession. Stefan, on the other hand, is a host out of passion; nevertheless, his heart beats for wine. Stefan takes care of the sales and, whenever time permits, helps on the vineyard and in the cellar.

Our wines
Our wines can be divided in two lines: the vineyard line with the grape- or wine labelling and the selection line, carrying the additional label “Valpitan”. Valpitan is the nearly forgotten name of the farmland surrounding our little wine cellar. The name has Romanic roots and can be translated into “valley on steep trail”.

Our wine-growing estate’s location in Scena is unique. Embedded in the own vines. Surrounded by the picturesque landscape of Merano and environs. Extremely sunny and only a few minutes’ walk from the village centre away. These are the ideal conditions for our excellent South Tyrolean wines. Our kind of pruning employed is the single Guyot cut. In Single Guyot, each vine has one cane preserved each year, for the generation of next years many fruiting canes, and one spur, which is for the generation of the replacement cane. Furthermore our vines are particularly influenced by the manual work and the special care of our host and winemaker Karl Pichler. He is also the one who organizes very special wine events for our guests. Whether in the oldest walls of the Innerleiterhof, the wine cellar, in the winery, at the sunny estate or in the wine tasting room – here our guests can enjoy very personal impressions from the world of wine. Of course, a good glass of Pinot Nero or Sauvignon certainly shouldn’t be missing either. Surrounded by a very special atmosphere.

Apart from its idyllic location, what is it that makes our wine hotel Innerleiterhof so special? Firstly, our excellent wine assortment. Karl Pichler, host and winemaker with deep passion, and his father-in-law Franz Egger produce 6 South Tyrolean quality wines: Pinot Blanc, Blauburgunder Rosé, Meraner Hügel, Blauburgunder and Roaner. Secondly, the open and unrestricted view of the vineyards and the winery. From the modern bar area our guests benefit from a direct insight into the production halls, where the exquisite wines are processed and stored. Thus, they have the possibility to be part of the entire wine process. This synergy between hotel and winery is unique in South Tyrol!
