From of March 2017, a comprehensive Menhir exhibition will be to visit in the Schlandersburg castle.

They are extraordinary silent witnesses to the Copper Age
past. The carved figures give us a glimpse into the society of the time and tell a fascinating story about our forefathers.

The two statue-stele of Vinschgau marble were discovered during the construction of a glass house at the Schöpf Nursery in Vetzan. One is a male and one a female figure. The male is over 3 m high. He is wearing a belt formed of decorative swags. Above it is the handle of a dagger. The female statue-stele is wearing a robe and a pendant and is portrayed with breasts.
It is no longer possible for us to figure out the original arrangement of the statue-stele. It is highly probable that they once belonged to a group of statue-stele.

In addition to these two originals, 18 menhirs – from South Tyrol and Trentino – are to be seen as abstracted metal sculptures.

Approach

From Reschen or Meran to Schlanders.
