Details

With the map in the hand we begin our historic tour at the Ursuline Church, in front of the Tschurtschenthaler Park. We cross the park and the road which conducts to Reischach/Riscone and take the path no. 22 till we arrive to the Heroes Cemetery. From there the tour brings to the Castle of Bruneck/Brunico passing on the suspension bridge crossing the road or along the path no. 22. The beautiful bishop’s castle dominates the town from a hilltop and watches, now as then, the houses of the old town. The castle houses the 5th mountain museum “MMM RIPA” of the famous climber Reinhold Messner.

The historic tour continues from the castle hill along the path leading to the St. Katherine’s Church and to the “Stadtgasse”. The eastern gate, also called “Porta Bruno”, leads into the Upper Town or “Oberstadt”, which is dominated by the “Sternbach Palace”. Continuing east there is the big Parish Church. Going back along the same way, the tour brings back to the “Bruno Gate” and after about 100 m, on the right, you go through the Rienz Gate, cross the bridge which leads to Bruder Willram Str.; there is the Town Museum. Nearby, in Kapuziner/Cappuccini Square, you can see the “Spital” Church of the Holy Spirit and the Monastery and Church of the Capuchin Monks. The last stop of the historic tour leads to the bridge in direction Graben/Bastioni, ending at “Floriani Gate”.
