The Vigiljoch is a true natural idyll and especially in spring and summer a small paradise for hikers, families and nature lovers. Wonderful hiking trails lead you through coniferous forests, flower meadows to alpine pastures and healing springs such as the forest lake Schwarze Lacke.
With a wide network of trails and an excellent panoramic view over the Adige Valley to the Dolomites, the Vigiljoch hiking area is very popular with families, hikers and mountain bikers.
Details

From your starting point at the Forster Steg, you walk to the electricity plant of Forst. Ascend to the Rastbühelhof on path # 9, which will lead to the Gramegg-Brünnl. Take path # 29 and ascend to the Seespitz zur Schwarzen Lacke – mountain restaurant. After 3 hours ascent, you should take a break. The hike continues on path # 9 to the little church, then branches off to the right on path # 28 and then leads you down to Aschbach (1,362 meters). From there you can take the Aschbach cable car down to Rabland and continue back to Algund by public bus or train.

Approach

Coming from Merano: Drive along until the end of the Josef-Weingartner street; turn right into the Steinachstraße; a few meters later turn left into the Marktgasse. After a few meters you will find on the left the outdoor pool, the car park and the Fortser Steg.
