We reach the popular Rif. Mezzavia mountain hut and the neighbouring Monte Lira viewpoint in a leisurely hike starting at the Passo della Mendola.
Details

Starting at the parking space at the Passo Mendola mountain pass, we follow the path no. 500 towards south. After about 20 minutes we reach the Rif. Genzianella mountain hut (Enzianhütte). From here we follow the path no. 2 towards the Roen Stube inn. We walk slightly downhill to the bottom station of the chair lift, then uphill on the path that follows the lift resp. the slope. Arrived at the top there are only a few hundred metres more to the Rif. Mezzavia mountain hut (Halbweghütte).

We decide to walk a little further to the nearby viewpoint “Monte Lira” (Lavinaspitz). From there we enjoy a gorgeous view on the surroundings, from the South Tyrolean Bassa Atesina area to Bolzano, to the Dolomites and the main Alpine ridge. In the valley below us we can see Lake Caldaro. Then we return to the Rif. Mezzavia, which we reach at the best time for lunch. For the way there incl. the detour to the Monte Lira we needed almost 2 hours. To get back to the Passo Mendola, we choose the direct path no. 500 and reach our starting point after about one hour.
