The starting point for the vineyard trail is in the center of Bressanone/Brixen (refreshments available) at the Adlerbrücke. Follow trail no. 1 through the Stufels district, first via Kranebitt (refreshments available) up to Elvas (refreshments available). Here continue through the Mooswald forest to the Raiermoos biotope and on trail no. 6 via Hochrain to the Strasserhof farm (refreshments available in autumn). Continue on trail no. 4 between vineyards and the typical dry stone walls down to the well-known Neustift monastery (refreshments available). From here head south on trail no. 16 back to Bressanone/Brixen. There is no shortage of places to stop along the way, especially in the fall it is charming to visit one of the rustic Buschenschänke.

The vineyard path is easy to walk and also brisk, much worth seeing transforms this hike, but without further ado into a day trip. Already at the starting point, the narrow medieval streets of Stufels are fascinating. Once you have conquered the first meters of altitude, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Bressanone basin from the Wetterkreuz near Elvas. Nature lovers will be delighted by the diversity of the Raiermoos biotope, as well as the centuries-old vineyards on the slopes above Neustift. Wines from these same vineyards can also be tasted directly at the Neustift monastery before heading back towards Brixen.

The Archeopfad Trail leads to the old Roman tower in Stufels/Stufles, the historical quarter in Brixen/Bressanone. From up there, a wonderful view opens out on the “Land an der Etsch” (the lands of the River Etsch), as this southern part of Tyrol was once known. The trail, retracing the old Roman paths, leads to historical monuments and ancient places of worship.

This hike offers both novel as well as tried and tested attractions even for seasoned visitors to South Tyrol.

The hike starts begins in the town center and follows trail no. 18 along a forest trail to a waterfall before reaching the Plose cableway valley station. From here, the circular hiking trail leads up to Meluno di Sopra/Obermellaun and sloping downward to the Oberplattnerhof farm. The route continues to Meluno/Mellaun on the Höfestraße road (trail no. 7), then along field trails (no. 12) back to the starting point.

Starting point of the hike is the Widmann bridge in Brixen. Shortly along the O. von Guggenberg Street, turn right and on the Plattenweg path (marking 6) uphill to Cornale. Continue along the Via Crucis to San Andrea at the parish church of the same name. On the San Andrea loop trail the hike leads in a southerly direction to Meluno di Sopra and Cleran. From here take trail no. 8 down to Millan. On the Karlspromenade promenade descend to the Karlsburg residence and through the Plose path back to the starting point.

The little church of St. John the Baptist is located in Cornale and stands on a charming rounded hill. The Martyrdom of St. Ursula, which dates back to the Renaissance (c. 1520), is of excellent artistic quality.

The parish church of S. Andrea was first mentioned in 1177. Its late Gothic renovation around 1485 with presbytery and bell tower is still characteristic.

In Cleran the little church of S. Nicolò impresses the visitor with its rich late Gothic ornamental frescoes. The cycle of the Passion of Christ is a pictorial jewel of excellent quality.

The pilgrimage church of “Maria am Sand” with its depiction of the Madonna is the old parish church of Millan and dates back to the 14th century.

The beautiful panorama is normally the reward only once you’ve climbed up to the highest point of a tour. Not on this hike to the Astjoch ridge: here there is a viewing platform right where you start in the Zumis car park. But don’t let this hold you back from the hike itself, as a wealth of wonderful routes await you, crossing wide open meadows and pastures before finally reaching the Astjoch ridge itself. High above the Lüsner Tal valley, it boasts exceptionally wide views of the main crest of the Alps, over the Pustertal valley and as far as the Dolomites. To help you get your bearings, the names of the countless mountain ranges and peaks that you can see have been engraved into a stone slab in the ground. A large part of the hike passes through nature conservation areas, where farmed mountain pastures alternate with upland moors and little marshy valley cuttings. The route also promises a number of curiosities to enjoy on the way, such as the little Alpine chapel at Pianer Kreuz, the foundation stone of which was consecrated by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, former Pope Benedict XVI. The hike to the Astjoch ridge starts, as already mentioned, at 1,775 m at the Zumis car park. The route takes you along the so-called Confinweg trail (no. 4) to the Ronerhütte mountain hut (refreshments available) and from there on trail no. 2 to the aforementioned chapel at the Pianer Kreuz, where there is a viewing platform in a nearby clearing. Continue to the Starkenfeldhütte mountain hut (refreshments available) at 1,936 m and from there it is a moderate climb on trail no. 67 to the highest point of the hike, the Astjoch ridge at 2,193 m. After enjoying the panoramic view, you descend on trail no. 12 to the Kreuzwiesenhütte mountain hut (refreshments available) and back to the Zumis car park on trail nos. 2A, 2 and finally back on the Confinweg trail.
