Passing Goyen, Vernaun and Labers castles en route, the finishing point of this pleasant, approximately two hour-long hike is Trauttmansdorff. As well as a visit to the botanical gardens, a detour to the Museum of Tourism is also well worthwhile.

From Scena, the route leads to the gardens at Trauttmansdorff Castle in Obermais, a district of the spa town of Merano, initially on trail nos. 3 and 3A past Goyen Castle as far as Vernaun Castle. To the right of the latter castle, the route winds along the Naifbach beck as far as Labers Castle. The main road first heads in a southerly direction past Rametz Castle and eventually to the impressive gardens at Trauttmansdorff Castle.

In the first part there are many artistic flower-beds, palms, ice-cream shops and cafes. Here you can admire the liberty architecture of the Kurhaus, whereas on the lower part of the promenade, surrounded by various historical buildings, you’ll find the artworks of the Human Figures project.

The promenade is easily walkable with pushchairs, too.

Easy walk along the Schlossweg from the centre of the village of Dorf Tirol.

Details

From the tourist information office in the centre of Dorf Tirol follow the signs to Tirol Castle. Past the parish church, Schlossweg branches off to the left just above the cemetery. The route passes through a narrow alleyway to the Doss viewpoint. Here the trail branches off to the right and initially passes between vineyards and orchards, then through a small tunnel (Knappenloch) and over a bridge that crosses the Köstengraben gorge. Finally, there is a short, steep climb to the castle.

The quickest way back to the starting point is to follow the same route.
