Bun de, bëgnodüs – this is how you will be greeted in Alta Badia

Do not be surprised if you do not understand everything in Alta Badia. We speak ladin. The originally reto-romanic dialect is now an officially recognized language, one of the three official languages in South Tyrol. Around 40,000 inhabitants around the Sella Group form this linguistic minority in Italy, so today ladin is also spoken outside the territorial border of South Tyrol.

Ladins live in Val Badia (Badia Valley), in Gherdëina (Gardena Valley), in Val de Fascia (Fassa Valley), in Val de Fodom (Fodom Valley) and finally also in Ampezo (Cortina d’Ampezzo).
