The Gilfenklamm gorge near Sterzing was eaten out of the light-coloured marble stone by the Ratschingser Bach stream. It is a natural spectacle of the first order, which is also recommended for inexperienced hikers. The path layout with its bridges and stairs is bold but safe. A visit to Sterzing and the museums there (Jöchlsthurn Mining Museum, Schneeberg Show Gallery, Mareit Hunting Museum) make for a good day’s programme.

Directions: Take the Brenner motorway from Klausen about 40 km north to the Sterzing exit. To get to the Gilfenklamm gorge, follow the signs to Ratschings until you reach the village of Stange. Here the footpath begins through the Gilfenklamm gorge up to Jaufensteg (1,150 m – guesthouse). Return as for the ascent or take meadow path no. 11 b past the hidden Reifenegg ruins.

Walking time: Ascent through the gorge approx. 45 min, descent via Reifenegg approx. 1 hour, non-slip shoes required. A small fee is charged for walking through the gorge.
