The tour across the South Tyrolean vineyards towards Niclara is one of the most demanding amongst the beginner tours. With 772 m elevation gain to face, it still is a technically easy ride, as bikers exclusively use asphalted roads. This tour is particularly lovely during spring, when the orchards below the snow-covered summits of the Dolomites bloom.

Must-sees on this trail…
– The Church of Holy Vigil in Cortaccia/Kurtatsch
-The countless orchards and vineyards peppering the route
– The small village of Niclara

Details

From Kaltern, head off on the virtually traffic-free road uphill to Castelveccio to get your heart beating right from the get-go. Bike across the small, flat plateau to a steep asphalted climb towards Söll and continue uphill to Termeno.

If that’s more than enough for you, simply head downhill across the orchards at the foot of the Etschtal valley and head back to Lake Kaltern. However, we do recommend you continue on the tour, as the particularly pretty part of the route set in this hilly area continues across orchards and vineyards to Cortaccia and, ultimately, to the small village Entiklar above the Etschtal valley.

Magrè is located in the valley. The most difficult part of the tour well behind you, you can now focus on returning across flat secondary roads winding their way across the orchards to Lake Kaltern, where you can stop to eat, relax, or go for a swim, before completing the last 180 m elevation gain to Kaltern proper.

Alternatives
