This short family hike is educational, exciting and fun, with several outdoor recreational opportunities to offer. Accessible to prams and strollers, this hiking trail on the Plose has magnificent views of the western Dolomites, particularly the striking Peitlerkofel and rocky peaks of the Geisler Group.
Details

Starting at Kreuztal/Valcoroce at the Plose gondola lift mountain station, the WoodyWalk follows trail no. 17 southeast for a short way as far as a small church. From there, it turns east on to an easy, flat forest path before narrowing onto trail no. 17/A, which runs slightly uphill to the Rossalm mountain hut, just in time for a refreshment stop. The renovated Rossalm is one of the top Alpine huts in South Tyrol offering fantastic views of the Dolomites, great homemade food and its own playground.

Along the length of the WoodyWalk are several eye-catching info and game stations purposely created for family recreation. Even the names of the wooden games are telling: the Ploseblitz, the Glockensee, the Touchless Ground Track (Nicht-den-Boden-berühren-Weg), the Forest Telephone (Waldtelefon), the Climbing Tree with Ox Cart (Kletterbaum mit Ochsenkarren), the Peitler-throne, a Kneipp system, giant loungers and viking ship.

On the way back, follow the same route or take trail no. 14 along a slightly sloped forest path to return to the starting point.

Approach

Starting from the cable car take route N° 17, go south-eastwards to the chapel and eastwards to the Plose road. Take the high level path on the right crossing meadows always continuing eastwards. At the bifurcation follow path n° 17A, passing by the old Rossalm, you will reach the higher new Rossalm (2200 m). To go back you can use the same path or, if you want to get some change, you can walk along an alternative path (14) which will take you to the gondola lift.
