Ski racers and mountaineers Hans and Paola Steger made their mark on the Seiser Alm like no other, before or since. Pioneers of mountaineering in the Dolomites, they made an immense contribution to the development of skiing on the Seiser Alm: The Hans & Paola Steger trail pays homage to their achievements. Info boards lining the route provide a host of information on the nature and culture of the Seiser Alm. A magnificent Dolomite panorama accompanies hikers along this leisurely yet fascinating trail. 

Details

The walk starts at the Seiser Alm mountain station in Compatsch, and the Hans and Paola Steger Route begins at the St. Franziskus Church. Trail no. 30 runs through meadows, crosses the main road and past the Steger-Dellai Hotel. The trail meets the road to Saltria, turns off to the right and leads to an old, wide alpine path which leads down to the streams running along the valley floor. Through woods and over alpine meadows and on to the Refuge Laranz hut. Shortly after the hut, turn left onto trail no. 12 which leads down to the Saltriatal valley. The final stretch leads out of the valley to Saltria.

Approach

The road to the landscape conservation area Seiser Alm is closed to private traffic from 9.00am to 5.00pm. During this time you can get to the Seiser Alm by the Seiser Alm cable car from Seis or by bus from Kastelruth. You can descend from Compatsch at any time.
