From the valley head in San Maddalena/Val Casies Valley (1460m, refreshment point, parking) follow the trail marking no. 12 over the bridge. Turn left and after the Schlosserhof farm take another left turn. After a few meters turn right and reach the old cattle drive. Near the Burgerhof farm cross the bridge of the Pfoi stream and follow the forest road. Small clearings will open up in the forest repeatedly revealing impressive views over the valley and the peaks of the Dolomites of Braies reaching high into the sky. After a short while cross the stream another time. After a short hike through Alpine meadows you will reach a junction (1930m) at which you keep left. This trail will finally take you over meadows and forests to the destination of the hiking tour, the Uwaldalm (2042m, refreshment point).

 

Approach

Coming from Innsbruck/Brennero (A): Drive on the Highway of Brennero (A22) until the exit Bressanone/Val Pusteria, then go on along the SS49-E66 for about 58kms until you arrive in Monguelfo. To get to Tesido and the Val Casies Valley, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo. Coming from Lienz (A): You can reach us also padding by Lienz in Westtyrol (A). You have to cross the Austrian-Italian border between Ahrnbach and Winnebach (B100-E66) and drive on the SS46-E66 until Monguelfo. To get to Tesido and the Val Casies, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo.
