The E5 trail is the European long-distance hiking trail that leads from Constance over the Alps to Venice. By taking this route, the hiker can experience a small section of this trail. The hikers walk through the typical woods of the high plateau of Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen and Kohlern/Colle. At Rotstein and Rotwand, two panoramic outlook ponts, an overwhelming glance over the Überetsch/Oltradige, Unterland/Bassa Atesina and Etschtal/Val d’Adige is guaranteed.

 

Details

From the village centre in Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen, with its magnificent elevated position surrounded by mountains, the E5 forest trail leads to the Rotenstein and Rotwand viewpoints to Colle di Bolzano. In just a few short minutes, hikers can descend from here to South Tyrol’s capital city, Bolzano, via the oldest suspended cable car in the world. After a quick stroll through the city, return to Nova Ponente by public bus.

Approach

Take highway’s exit “Bolzano Nord/Eggental”, turn right direction Bolzano/Bozen, after about 0,5 km on roundabout keep left and head towards Val d’Ega (SS 241). Keep driving up to Ponte Nova. At Ponte Nova’s crossroads, turn to the right and continue to Nova Ponente (about 30 min. from highway toll booth).
