Scenically beautiful Alpine ridgeway with views of the main peaks of the Sexten Dolomites.
No car is necessary for this long, but not difficult, circular hike due to the dense network of trails, but you will need a good hiking map! From the Coltrondo Alm Alpine farm head directly to the Kreuzberg Pass where you can catch a bus to Moso/Moos (saving approx. 45 minutes). You can also do the tour in the opposite direction, travelling to the Kreuzberg Pass by bus and so saving a climb of about 300 metres. It is also possible to shorten the tour by only visiting one or two Alpine farms.

Details

Route: The trail goes uphill from Moso by the Berghotel, reaching the Froneben mountain inn (1,540 m) by following the first fork to the right. Now you walk on trail no. 139 across the Obere Oltl upland moor to trail no. 13, a forest road. This leads through dense pine forests to the gorge carved out by the “Sextner Bach” stream. At a fork in the road near a tall cross, turn left and head northwards on the wide trail no. 133 to the Klammbachalm Alpine farm with its outstanding views (1,944 m; refreshments available) 2 hours from your starting point. From the Klammbachalm, continue through exceptionally beautiful scenery along Alpine ridgeway no. 13 across a long hillside, heading south-east towards the Nemes Alm or Sextner Alm Alpine farms (1,877 m; refreshments available). Vast Alpine pastures stretch in every direction in front of the stunning backdrop of the Sexten Dolomites. Follow trail no. 156, first going slightly downhill and then across the wooded slopes, heading south-east towards the Coltrondo Alm Alpine farm (1,879 m). From there walk towards the Kreuzberg Pass and, following the signposts (for trail no. 149), continue through some extensive woodland until you have crossed a wooded ridge, where you turn off to the right (no. 130) past the little “Schwarzsee” blacklake (1,741 m). Finally you go down to the Patzenfeld campsite and take trail nos. 13 A and 1 back to your starting point.Summary: A wonderful panoramic tour with the magnificent mountains that make up the Sexten Sundial constantly in view. There are several nice places for refreshments on the way.Level of difficulty: mediumStarting point: Sesto/SextenHighest point: 1,879 m”
