Details

The tour begins at the mountain station of the Paolina chairlift (Paolinahütte mountain hut 2,125 m) and leads on trail [539] past the Christomannos monument up to the Rotwandhütte mountain hut (2,283 m). Head left from there, ascending sharply to the beginning of the via ferrata. Ascend via chimneys and rock towers to the Masarè peak (2,585 m). The ascent is on the path over the grassy slope heading towards the Fensterleturm tower. A signposted trail that descends to the Rotwandhütte mountain hut (wire cables, ladder) is directly next to the cliff edge and leads back to the starting point. Alternative route: continue via the Rotwand via ferrata to the Vajolon Pass and back to the Paolinahütte mountain hut.

Difficulty: difficult (C) – only with climbing equipment, helmet, sure-footedness and Alpine experience essential

Approach

Take highway’s exit “Bolzano Nord/Eggental”, turn right direction Bolzano/Bozen, after about 0,5 km on roundabout keep left and head towards Val d’Ega (SS 241). Keep driving up to Ponte Nova. At Ponte Nova’s crossroads, turn to the left and continue to Nova Levante and than Carezza (about 30 min. from highway toll booth).
