Kirchbachspitze
Naturno, Merano & Surroundings
Description
This demanding summit hike rewards the ascent with a breathtaking view. Impressive is the almost 2. 500 m sloping mountain flank that reaches from the summit down to Naturns.
Details

This summit tour to the striking local mountain of Naturno, the Kirchbachspitze (2.947 m), starts at the top station of the cable car Unterstell at 1.300 m. From there, you first take path no. 10, past the farms Patleid and Lint, crossing the Meraner Höhenweg and continuing uphill through larch forests to Dickhof. From there you continue the ascent via the Dickalm and the Obere Moaralm up to 2,095 m altitude. From the alpine pasture the path bears the mark 10a and now runs above the tree line on partly still grassy, later stony to rocky ground towards the northeast. Always moderately steeply uphill, the path follows the course of an increasingly steeper basin. From about 2,600 metres, the last steep and arduous ascent over partly loose scree up to the summit has to be mastered. As one approaches the summit cross from the backside, only at the summit, the dizzying view to the almost vertical appearing flank of the Kirchbachspitze down to the valley becomes free. The descent is via the ascent path. The cable car takes you back to Naturns.

Approach

Coming from Merano you drive along the main road to Kompatsch and turn into the shooting stand path. The valley station of the cable car Unterstell is located there.
