The starting point is Rein:
from the church bus stop in Rein you go on the main road in the direction of Knuttental heading into the valley to Gasthof Pichler, then turn right and go down to the Knuttenbach and up the opposite side to Ebnerhof (farm). Take road 8A upwards and after having passed a wooden gate, turn left through the forest ascending to Unteren (lower) and Oberen (upper) Kofler Alm (2032 m). Keep right and continue walking on trail nr. 8A to Brunner Almhütte (2322 m). Continue on with easy ascends and descends going eastwards to Ursprung Alm (2396 m; descent to Rein is possible from here, nr. 88). The following route to Hochgall /Kasselerhütte trail nr. 8 is the most impressive. The glaciers seem close enough to touch. After having crossed the source of the river you arrive at a mountain slope that requires sure-footedness and that you don’t get dizzy. A short steep descent is secured by a steel chain. Then the path continues with easy ascends and descends. After having walked over gravel moraine and glacier boulders you arrive at the Hochgall/Kasseler Hütte (2276m; restaurant). Trail nr. 1 leads you back down to Riva/Rein.
