The tours through the huge underground bunkers in Upper Vinschgau Valley guarantee an exciting journey into the 20th century. As a place of transition over the Alps, the Vinschgau Valley has always been of military interest. Romans, Habsburgs and Napoleon’s army passed here, and the Second World War has left its mark. These traces however are not visible to the naked eye, because they are monumental underground bunkers that were planned as a defense facilities and places of refuge. Yet, the hidden fortresses of the defensive alpine wall were never utilized militarily.
Today, the relics of the interwar period are embedded in the surrounding fruit orchards and pastures. History buffs should not miss the guided bunker tours.
