The history of the Earth, up close: The Geotrail in Puflatsch offers a fascinating insight into bygone days and the 252 million years of the Dolomite history. This leisurely route leads along the northerly slope of the Bullaccia and the Panider Sattel to Pufels/Puflatsch and back again. Amateur geologists of all ages will be in their element: Segmentation and stratification of the Earth’s layers have created the surrounding landscape as we know it today, and traces of eras long-past can still be seen in abundance. The route also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Dolomite panorama and the Val Gardena/ Gröden Valley. Information boards line the trail, providing hikers with a wealth of fascinating facts about the Dolomites as they channel their own spirit of exploration.

Details

The walk starts at the Panider Sattel and, following the “Geotrail” signposts, leads along the old municipal road to Pufels and back again. The first stretch, along trail no. 3A and across vast meadows, takes you to the woods below the Puflatsch. A new link road then leads you downhill to the old, abandoned road to Bulla. The pleasant walk to Bulla is nice and easy, and is also suitable for young children. From Pufls, the geotrail leads up to Zaramin and back to the point of departure at the Panider Sattel.

Approach

Interurban bus no. 170 to Ortisei will take you to the Panider Sattel, where the Geotrail begins.
