The Dolomites High Route 8 leads from Bressanone to Salorno. It goes over a crest, which flanks the Etschtal/Val’Adige valley and the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco valley.

The path begins together with the Dolomites High Route 2 in Bressanone, later the paths separate. The Dolomites High Route 8 offers a relatively easy crossing of the Dolomites. It was built relatively late, in 1981, from the existing network of paths. The most demanding part of the route is the passage from the Passo di Costalunga to the hut Rifugio di Pisa. Since there are many bases, the path can be followed in quite short stages, which makes it also exciting for families with children. The duration of the trail should be between 10 and 13 days.

Details

Stage 1: Brixen – Plosehütte

We reach the valley station of the Plose cable car. This cable car takes you up to the Kreuztal hotel settlement at 2023 m above sea level. On foot, you can walk from 1 to 1.5 hours on trails 3 and 7 to the Plosehütte. Alternatively, you can take a taxi directly to the Plosehütte.

Stage 2: Plosehütte – Schlüterhütte

We start crossing the mountain with paths 3, 4 and 7 to the Forcella di Luson. Continue along paths 4 and 6 to the right side of Mount Große Pfannspitze. Through the meadows we reach the valley station of a ski lift. Soon we turn right from trail no. 6 to the hut Skihütte. Then we raise into the upper valley between Mount Große Pfannspitze and Mount Gabler. On path no. 4 we descend again. We soon pass the alp Enzian. We follow the road in the direction to Würzjoch pass until the junction of path no. 4, which we follow now. We continue along the Günther-Messner trail and trail no. 8A to the Furcella Sas de Putia. Then it descends westwards to the Schlüterhütte.

Stage 3: Schlüterhütte – Broglesalm

We take road 33 and 35 to the hut Gampenalm. The path becomes a dirt road and we follow it to the bottom of the valley. On the Adolf-Munkel Trail (no. 35) we reach the hut Glatschalm. We continue uphill and soon reach the hut Gschnagenhardtalm and then the hut Geisleralm. On path no. 35 we now pass through a forest. At a crossroads we go straight on and shortly afterwards we cross the meadows and arrive at the hut Broglesalm.

Stage 4: Broglesalm – Rifugio Firenze

This 2.5 hour phase includes the forcella Pana, which can be closed after strong rainfalls. If the gorge is frozen, crampons are recommended. We take path no. 6 and reach the bottom of the valley. In a short time we reach the forcella Pana through the northern slope of the Seceda and walk steeply from the bottom of the gorge to the south. Here we take path no. 1 and descend towards the hut Troier. We take a beautiful high-level path above the hut Aschgler and the slopes of the Cisles to finally reach the Rifugio Firenze, the destination of this stage.
