Description
This uncomplicated circuit hike on the high moors of the Villanderer Alm mountain pasture through pine forests, offers fantastic views of the Dolomites. Occupying about 20 km2, the Villanderer Alm is one of the largest Alpine pastures in Europe.

The hike starts at the Saltnerstein parking area (1,744 m) on the Villanderer Alm. Take trail no. 6, as it rises slightly uphill from the nearby Gasserhütte mountain hut and then heads northeast. Turn right at the first crossroads and continue along trail no. 24 to the Rinderplatzhütte mountain hut (1,799 m). Then follow the signs to Latschenweg – Sentiero Pino Mugo along trail no. 23 and turn left. At the next intersection turn right to arrive at Moar in Plun (1,870 m). Continue for a short distance before reaching another fork in the road. Keep right and take trail no. 15. After about 200 m, turn left to Marzuner Schupfe mountain hut (1,933 m), where the distillery manufactures the prized dwarf pine oil. 

To return, head northwest along trail no. 6A/6 and at the next crossing follow the signs to Moar in Plun. Continue downhill on a moderate gradient following trail no. 15/6 to the Gasserhütte and back to the Saltnerstein parking area.
