The Vellau Felsenweg (rock path) begins right beside the church of Vellau. It leads through meadows (ascending) to path # 22, passing the Eicherhof on your right hand side. Follow the path through the forest to the Grabbach Valley. After crossing the Grabbach, the path becomes steep and runs along the rock to the Hochmuter (1,361 metres). Even though the path is secured with steel chains on some exposed parts, it is recommended that only people who do not get dizzy take this path. From the Hochmuter, you can ascend on path # 24 to the Steinegger (approx. 100 metres). Once there, turn left and walk on the Meran mountain road to the Leiter Alm ( ¾ hours). Return journey via the basket lift facility or by foot via the Oberplatzer – Kienegger to Vellau (path # 26).
