From the Merano 2000 lift car park, head over the bridge and continue to the right following the road briefly upwards and crossing it at the first curve (signs for Lawand Lenzeben). Through the industrial buildings, head uphill to a farmyard (signs for Lawand) and then straight on past Vernaun Castle (Schloss Vernaun). At the next fork, the route is signposted with Gsteier. The majority of the route follows the paved trail. Just before Gsteier, the trail meets the road. The next 1,090 m are on asphalt. Pass by the Gsteier mountain restaurant and go straight on to Merano 2000. The trail is marked with signs (Merano 2000) at the following forks. Be careful at the last set of signs just before Merano 2000. Two signs direct you into the valley. The way forward, however, is not signposted. Continue right, soon reaching the gravel road that leads straight back to the cable car.
