Lagundo, Merano & Surroundings
Description
Challenging but rewarding hike to the Mutkopf, an idyllic hiking destination with a fantastic view of the Adige Valley, the Vinschgau up to the Ortler massif and southwards to the peaks of the South Tyrolean Dolomites.
Details

Take the basket lift facility from Vellau to the Leiter Alm. From there, walk on path # 24 until you come to an open Alpine hut. Just above the hut, path # 25 turns from your previous route. This path leads you first to the Gampen and then snakes through the Taufen to the Taufenscharte (2,230 metres / Karjoch). From the gap, turn left and descend (approx. 20 minutes) until you come to a lonely rock. Here, the Jägersteig turns from path # 25 and leads you to the northern slope of the Mut mountains and to the Mutkopf mountain (1,648 metres). From Gasthof Mutkopf descend to the Steinegg (path # 22), turn right and take the Meran mountain road (# 24) back to the Leiter Alm. The basket lift facility will bring you back to Vellau. From here, take the chair lift or the bus back to Algund.

Approach

Via the Adige Valley, take the MeBo expressway to the Algund exit and follow to Vellau. Coming from Vinschgau, Algund is just before Merano.
