The Geologists’ Trail takes you on a journey through the history of the Earth. Over millions of years waters of the Frötschbach river have eroded the rock strata, revealing how the Dolomites came into being. With spectacular waterfalls en-route, this trail offers hikers and amateur geologists a beautiful hike and a fascinating insight into the Earth’s history.

Details

Leave from the Bad Ratzes Hotel and cross the Frötschbach. After the bridge, take a left onto the trail signposted “Schlernbödelehütte hut, Prossliner Schwaige hut” (trail no. 1). The route then leads through the Frötschbach gully and past a few waterfalls. At a fork in the road, head downhill to the left (trail no. 1A), over the stream and on to the other bank. From here, climb up the steep slope to the Alpine meadows of the Proslinerschwaige mountain hut and carry on into the valley above the Frötschbach. Then head down to the Schlernboden hut (trail no. 1), and wind your way further down along the steep woody banks. The last stretch to Bad Ratzes follows the outward route.

Approach

From Seis follow the signs to Bad Ratzes (small parking area or bus nr. 5).
